EH: Reading Source 4 - The Suspense Thriller

 Why do audiences seek out thrills vicariously?
-Horror fans often seek to be thrilled and frightened, with their ‘blood chilled’ and often look for more gruesome and scary films rather than a crime thriller.
-Vicariously seeking thrills includes how the audience watching a film that they felt or enjoyed through imagined participation in the experience of others, thus especially relating to films such as Psycho(Hitchcock,1960) with the murder occurring in a home setting with a normal situation of a shower and thus the thrilling moment is highly relatable by the audience.

What are the different types of thrills that may be presented in this genre? What is the audience appeal?
-Hitchcock mastered the production of Suspense Thriller films, and as evident in Psycho, he included a  jump-scare of the murderer suddenly appearing from behind the shower curtain and a sudden amplification of music in the sound mix, giving the moment an enhanced feeling of panic and surprise.
-‘Bone-chilling horror story with supernatural overtones’ and ‘Violent fast-paced crime melodrama’ are the main different types of Suspense Thriller films.
