EH: Institutional Context - Frozen (Green,2010)

  • Psychological horror with the sub-genre of isolation.
  • The plot of the film is about skiers being stranded on a ski lift when the resort had shut down, leaving them abandoned and left freezing to death.

Production:
  • Production companies: A Bigger Boat and ArieScope Pictures.
  • Small budget of independent production studio.
  • Frozen was filmed at Snowbasin near Ogden, Utah, in February 2009
  • At Sundance Film Festival Adam Green stated how the spot where they shot Frozen was supposedly haunted by a suicide victim who had killed himself in that very spot a year before.
  • Ski resorts send people to inspect the lifts at the end of every filming session to prevent this very scenario in the horror film from happening in the shooting location of the ski resort.

Exhibition:

  • The film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. It was released in North American theaters on February 5, 2010.
  • Frozen opened to a first weekend box office of $131,395. It underperformed in the following weeks. Internationally, the film earned over $2.4 million, bringing its total profits to approximately $2.7 million. In screened in a total of 106 movie theatres in its time of widest release.
  • Box Office: $3.1 million.
  • A soundtrack album consisting of the film's complete music score, composed by Andy Garfield was released by 2M1 Records Group in January 2011.
